Jan Rees, Asset Bookkeeping

Jan went on to say:

Sophie is a little diamond. She settled in straight away, and we get on easily.

In the beginning, the software, and the accounting terminology and processes were completely unfamiliar to her. However, she absorbed every step I showed her. Even though some jobs could become very repetitive, such as bank reconciliation, she worked her way through it, discovering, accounting does has its laborious side!

Sophie is very organised. She has her to-do board, which highlights jobs she needs to do. Sometimes, the board isn’t big enough.

There are also monthly boards to highlight what other main jobs need to be done, and those are worked through together. Although, now, Sophie has become familiar, knowing the processes and understand what she is doing, verifying all with me at the final stage.

I am extremely proud of her exam results, as she has gained distinction every time. This again, gives me further confidence in her abilities to take on more challenges.

How has Damar’s approach to training benefitted your apprentice and your business?

This was the first time I have directly worked with an apprenticeship training provider.

I had many conversations with Jack in the recruitment team at Damar to find the best candidate and he did his job outstandingly.

Since it was Covid, training was affected across the national, and therefore online study appeared to be the best option.

Sophie has now moved onto her fourth module and the training is productive her coach Gemma, and trainer Stewart.
