Jordan Coulton, our Apprentice, has massively progressed in his role and greatly benefitted Weightmans. Completing his first apprenticeship has boosted his confidence and we have had the pleasure of watching him grow throughout his time with us. Jordan took a brave step becoming the first Higher Legal Apprentice in the country and I think it’s fair to say he has paved the way for others to do the same. Within three months of beginning his apprenticeship, Jordan was assisting fee earners in his team and hit the ground running from the word go. We’ve seen the business benefit from Jordan’s apprenticeship as he always achieves his chargeable targets; however, we have also gained invaluable experience as an employer, as Jordan showed us how beneficial hiring apprentices could be. Apprenticeships give us an opportunity to train and develop our own lawyers in a way that Weightmans works, and therefore offer more routes to become successful lawyers.
Jordan has trail blazed the path way for others to succeed within Weightmans. His personality, his professionalism and his ability to be the life and soul of any team. There is not just one thing that stands out about Jordan. He is an inspiration to us all, to show what hard work, dedication and a snazzy pair of shoes can achieve.
Training with Damar has also allowed Jordan to learn new skills, theories and behaviours and immediately use them within a professional environment, occasionally coming back with hints and tips to help the wider team.
We are proud that Jordan is now a national NAS winner, and an ambassador for both Weightmans and the National Apprenticeship Service. The world is his oyster, and we will whole heartedly support any future plans he has.
For any firm considering employing an apprentice; do it. We have also been on a learning curve with the apprenticeship scheme, having only employed apprentices since 2013, and this has enriched us as people and the firm as a whole.
