Bethany is an Audiology Clerical Officer at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, who has recently completed her Customer Service Apprenticeship. Find out more about how she found the apprenticeship and how it has impacted her organisation.

How has the apprenticeship impacted on you?

The apprenticeship has made me more confident in my job role. It has expanded my knowledge and allowed me to learn new things about the organisation. I really enjoyed learning and the knowledge I have gained will continue to develop over the years. I feel having achieved this apprenticeship it will help me to be better at my role and provide the best customer service to my patients.

How has the apprenticeship impacted on your organisation?

The organisation have gained a team player who is willing to learn and is happy to upskill in order to support the department. I am always willing to learn new skills, I have become more flexible with the way I approach my work and found efficient ways in dealing with tasks. I really feel valued within my department and team.

How did Damar’s approach to training help to maximise this impact?

At first I was slightly worried about the course being online but everyone at Damar Training was very helpful and supportive. The regular online meetings made me feel more confident and comfortable with all the work, and I found learning online was a lot easier than I had expected.

Throughout the apprenticeship I was given one day every week to study by my organisation. This was great as it allowed me to clear my schedule and concentrate on my course, and I had some amazing support from my coach Katie Davies at Damar Training.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?

I decided to do an apprenticeship because I wanted to learn as well as gain work experience. I wanted to work for an organisation where I felt I could make a difference and Damar Training have given me the opportunity to do so.

What do you do in your role?

My daily activities include reception work, greeting the patients, answering any queries we get via telephone or email and making sure patients’ appointments are booked appropriately.

What have you enjoyed the most about your apprenticeship?

I enjoy the team I work with – It’s such an amazing team to be a part of and they all have been so supportive throughout my apprenticeship. Having completed the apprenticeship I have been offered a full-time role within the department which is amazing!
