A case study from Chartered Legal Executive Apprentice, Sherelle Corbridge.
What is your job title?
Commercial Real Estate Paralegal
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?
I first enrolled on the apprenticeship in September 2018, and this was something that I wanted to pursue after securing a permanent role at CMS.
What sort of activities do you do in your role?
My role as part of the Legal Services Unit is to work collaboratively with real estate lawyers in all offices within the UK. I am predominantly involved in assisting with sales, purchases and refinancing of multi-let properties as well as managing my own asset management matters such as wayleave agreements and various types of landlord consent transactions.
What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship?
I have enjoyed being able to go back to an academic environment, whilst fulfilling my role at CMS on a full-time basis. Whilst this has been challenging, it has meant that I have been able to apply my continued learning and development directly to my current role. I have also enjoyed learning and interacting with new people. This has been a great experience!
How is your training with Damar?
My training with Damar has been great, and continues to be very fulfilling. My supervisor, Donna Ridgway, in particular has been fantastic. Her continued support throughout the duration of the apprenticeship has been invaluable. Donna is always available for any support and this even includes informal, friendly chats. This makes all the difference and has meant I have felt fully supported throughout my studies.
What do you think your biggest achievement has been as an apprentice?
My exam result for conveyancing – achieving a distinction. I was overwhelmed to have achieved such a great result and this is something I am extremely proud of!
What are your career plans after you finish your apprenticeship?
My long term ambition is to qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive and following the exam results, I am another step closer to qualifying which is a great feeling.
