How apprentices can boost your whole business
It’s the 17th annual celebration of apprenticeships – National Apprenticeship Week (NAW). Each year, NAW plays a great part in raising awareness of the value apprentices deliver to businesses.
Many businesses have a strategy in place for apprenticeships in the core area of business – but what about within the teams which are less commonly associated with apprenticeships?
Business support is an area which often gets overlooked, which is a real missed opportunity. Administrators play a vital role in the success of organisations. They support and engage with different parts of the organisation and interact with internal and external customers.
For over twenty years, Damar has had at least one apprentice in our business support or administration teams and many of our former apprentices have progressed to senior roles. Our current apprentice, Katie Cookson – a Level 3 Business Administrator – joined us in September 2023.
Deciding that full time education was not the path for her, Katie joined Damar after a conversation with a member of our specialist apprentice recruitment team.
Katie (pictured) commented: “The recruitment team gave me great insight into the role, the company and its culture and what progression routes it could lead to once I completed my apprenticeship. The opportunity really appealed to me as it allowed me to gain some real work experience in a professional setting and I was sold by what she told me about Damar.”
Katie is fast becoming a key member of the team, supporting her colleagues, partner employers and apprentices. She’s also working to streamline and improve processes within our business.
Steven Logan, Divisional Manager, Business Support Unit at Damar Training, said:
“Katie has been a great addition to the team. She has a thirst for learning and always offers to help and support colleagues which allows her to develop her knowledge of our processes.
“Bringing a fresh perspective, Katie is keen to articulate her own ideas of where she feels our processes could be more efficient. She supports all our customers and students that she comes in to contact with in a positive and helpful way.”
