Henry Appleyard is an AAT Accounting Apprentice at law firm, Sutherland & Co Law.
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?
I decided to do an apprenticeship as it allowed me to progress my career, but it also allowed me to continue to work at the same time as studying.
What sort of activities do you do in your role?
I deal with all incoming and outgoing payments to the company, which includes processing invoices for payment and sending out payments for conveyancing transactions. I also deal with processing the payroll.
What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeships?
I have enjoyed the flexibility of being able to work and study at the same time.
How has your training been with Damar?
I have enjoyed my training with Damar. Their systems have been very easy to use and understand and my tutor is very friendly.
What do you think your biggest achievement has been as an apprentice?
I’m not sure what I would classify as my biggest achievement during my apprenticeship. I would like to hope that once I have taken my exams it is that I have gained a good result in all of them.
What do you think you have contributed to your organisation during your apprenticeship?
I do not think that I have made an additional contributions to the organisation during my apprenticeship, as I was already doing the same role before enrolling on to the apprenticeship. However, once I have completed my apprenticeship, I hope I will have gained the skills to enable me to make a bigger contribution to the organisation.
What are your career plans for when you’ve finished your apprenticeship?
Once I have completed my apprenticeship I would like to work towards becoming a financial manager within the business I am working for.
