Travel Consultant Apprentice, Kyrah Martin, tells us about her apprenticeship in this case study.
What is your job title?
Cruise Consultant
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?
I decided to do an apprenticeship because I was studying travel and tourism at sixth form and knew that it was what I wanted to focus on. And I have also been on cruises as family holidays so when I saw the advert for this apprenticeship, I knew it would be the perfect opportunity to do what I love.
What sort of activities do you do in your role in the apprenticeship?
On a day-to-day basis, I complete a range of activities like coursework, admin (phone calls, emails, booking systems) and customer facing duties.
What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship?
So far, I have most enjoyed building my product knowledge of all the cruise and travel companies out there. I have also enjoyed the experience of every day being different and being faced with different challenges.
How is your training with Damar?
My training with Damar so far has been greatly beneficial and I always feel that I have the support I need throughout the workloads. There is always somebody I can get in contact with in any circumstances. I love the fact that all the tasks set can be made into a personal piece of work and can be presented in a variety of different ways.
What do you think your biggest achievement has been as an apprentice?
My biggest achievement so far has been my ITT Apprentice of the Year award.
What do you think you have contributed to your organisation during your apprenticeship?
From going on cruises before I started my apprenticeship, I have bought knowledge of these experiences. Also, I have brought social media knowledge and help with things such as Facebook posts, other social media networks and IT programmes like Microsoft Word.
