Morgan Walsh – Business Admin Apprentice

Morgan Walsh, Business Admin Apprentice, tells us about her apprenticeship experience.

What is your job title?

At the time I was completing my apprenticeship, I was on an 18 month fixed term apprenticeship contract as an apprentice education administrator. Since then I have secured a maternity leave position in the same team as a senior education administrator.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?

My background is in teaching and retail/food service management. I chose to complete an apprenticeship programme as I wanted to change careers but had limited office experience. The apprenticeship gave me the access I needed to a new career as well as validating my existing skills and allowing me to build on them.

What sort of activities did you do in your role?

In my previous role I was covering all the administration for apprenticeships in the trust. Now I cover all the administration for workforce education sessions and manage another administrative colleague. I also administrate other training and development programmes with collaborating departments in the trust and I am also still supporting the apprenticeship activity.

What did you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?

During the apprenticeship I enjoyed balancing the dynamic of working in an office environment with the supportive aspects of completing an apprenticeship and feeling confident that I was doing my work correctly. Shortly after completing my apprenticeship, I was shortlisted for Learner of the Year at the Trust Awards which was a huge achievement that I was very proud of.

How did you find your training with Damar?

I found it easy to balance the programme with my everyday workload. Some units give you the opportunity to research your workplace which I found incredibly valuable, having come into the organisation as a new employee.
