Saskia Kirkham, Business Admin Apprentice at Abode, tells us about her apprenticeship experience.
What is your job title?
Lettings Administrator but recently have been promoted to Lettings Negotiator.
Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?
Working and learning on the job was appealing to me, as well as earning whilst learning the role and completing the course.
What sort of activities did you do in your role whilst you were on the apprenticeship?
I learnt the role of a letting agent. I was originally booking viewings and taking phone calls regarding property enquiries but now I have taken on a whole other level of work. I am doing everything on the lettings side from booking in inspections, viewings, taking clients through referencing and moving them in and out of our properties.
What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship?
Getting experience on the job. Now I am qualified with my business qualification and I have this under my belt
What do you think your biggest achievement has been as an apprentice?
Landing on my feet at my amazing company, I am so happy to be a part of the Abode team and I would never have had the opportunity if I hadn’t done the apprenticeship. I love the job and what I do.
What do you think you have contributed to your organisation during your apprenticeship?
I have brought an extra pair of hands. I have taken on so much responsibility during my time that I have been here and I continue to take more and more on. I have brought new ideas about what we have been doing well and what may need changing. With me being here we have managed to take on so many more properties as we now have the staff to deal with the volume of work.
What are your career plans now you’ve finished your apprenticeship?
I plan to stay with Abode as I love it here. I am going to do a property qualification course that is specialised to the job I am in. I then hope to progress into a manager role in the near future.
