Damar Training and JB Leitch started working together on their apprenticeship programme in 2014, and have used apprenticeships to train and upskill existing staff as well as recruit new apprentices. We’ve worked together to educate supervisors and managers and gain their commitment to the apprenticeship training and the benefits it could bring to the business. We understand what the firm needs, in terms of quality candidates and commercial considerations. Due to the success of the programme, this has now become an established route for recruiting new talent and developing staff.
Damar Training have successfully trained over 30 apprentices at JB Leitch. One such apprentice was Josh McCarthy who completed his Business Admin Apprenticeship in February 2020.
In describing his experience and the benefits our apprenticeship has brought, Josh highlights “I believed university was not for me and I wanted to dive straight in and work while also be trained to gain as much experience as I could to give me much more of an understanding of my job role”.
With regard to personal as well as professional development, Josh notes “I enjoyed learning new skills while on the job as this broadened my mind on new ideas that can contribute to my work and my apprenticeship. I enjoyed making a lot of new friends while being here and improving my soft skills like communication and teamwork”.
JB Leitch’s Operations Director, Andy Hull, also comments: “Training providers have a key role to play in providing off-the-job training, assessing progress towards achieving their qualifications and supporting apprentices generally during their apprenticeship. We work closely with Damar Training, who work with thousands of apprentices nationally. Our commitment was recognised when JB Leitch was named as ‘Employer of the Year’ at Damar Training’s annual Apprenticeship Awards in 2019.”
