Benefits of Business Admin Apprenticeships

Damar Blog Post – 6

According to the government’s employer survey, apprenticeships provide many benefits to employers. Some of the key statistics from their survey include:

  • 78% of employers said apprenticeships helped them improve productivity
  • 74% of employers said apprenticeships helped them improve the quality of their product or service

But for businesses and organisations which haven’t previously engaged with this type of training programme, the mechanisms by which apprenticeships produce these benefits may not be abundantly clear.

The business admin apprenticeship standard, for example, is a level 3 qualification, quite often suitable for people starting out in their careers. So how can an apprentice in an entry-level role have such an impact on an organisation that they improve productivity and the quality of a product or service?

There are actually many ways in which a business admin apprentice can have this sort of significant impact. For example, they can:

  • Increase admin support, freeing up time for more senior members of the team to take on more complex responsibilities
  • Complete projects to drive real service improvements as part of their apprenticeship portfolio
  • Inject fresh ideas and new ways of working into your organisation, improving general retention and morale across the whole business
  • Help you to demonstrate your commitment to investing in, and developing, your staff, which engenders a more positive and productive working environment

Here at Damar, we’ve been asking our business admin apprentices about how they’ve been having an impact on their organisations over the last year and this is what some of them had to say:

“I help contribute towards providing a better educational experience for aspiring medical students which in turn impacts on the organisation because providing better education results in better patient care.”

Jack Johnson, Medical Admin Apprentice, The Christie NHS Foundation Trust

“The apprenticeship has helped me to become more disciplined with my work when needed, and to set and work towards a goal. My apprenticeship has also impacted members of my team who aren’t on the programme by asking them questions and to give feedback on my project. It’s not just the apprentice who gets something out of it.”

Sophie Mash, Legal Admin Apprentice, CMS

“Damar’s approach to training has had a huge positive impact on my apprenticeship. I have been supported throughout by my brilliant coach, excellent online learning tools and the availability of the Business Administrator Forum, which meant any questions I had could be answered in a small amount of time. My coach and manager worked really well together to identify my strengths and weaknesses, and to agree when I was ready for the end-point assessment. It has resulted in benefits for my organisation, with a new electronic indexing system in place as part of my project presentation.”

Owen Dugmore, Legal Admin Apprentice, City of Wolverhampton Council

“The apprenticeship prompted me to start thinking outside the box. Because of this, the idea for the Hayley Rail LinkedIn page was born. This was a huge success, and is still growing to this day.”

Joe Sheehan, Business Admin Apprentice, Hayley Group

“The apprenticeship took me out of my comfort zone and I learnt new skills which I can apply now and in the future. As a result of completing my social media project with Damar, our social media is gaining more attention and likes, which means we attract more clients.”

Magdalena Pogorzelska, Legal Admin Apprentice, PSG Law

“My coach believed in me even when I didn’t. The improvements I have made through my apprenticeship has increased the organisation’s standing in the NHS improvement cost recovery tables and improved the way we work with patients.”

Rachael Crate, Medical Admin Apprentice, Tameside & Glossop NHS Foundation Trust

“My training with Damar was everything I could have asked for, from the systems used to the overall support I received from my coach. I think I bring a positivity to the team and offer new perspectives. I have received really good feedback from everyone I have worked with.”

Amy Arthur, Business Admin Apprentice, The Co-op

“I have gained invaluable knowledge and connections, while being part of something bigger than myself, with the satisfaction of knowing that my skills have value and can make a difference within the organisation.”

Haider Malik, Legal Admin Apprentice, Trowers & Hamlin
