Beth is a Paralegal Apprentice at Catalyst. She was the winner of Damar’s Apprentice of the Month in October 2021.
Why did you decide to sign up to an apprenticeship and what are you hoping to achieve from it?
My manager had mentioned the possibility of an apprenticeship. I was keen to progress my career in the legal field and so it meant that I didn’t lose any salary, but was able to learn on the job and gain a qualification at the same time.
What have you learnt from your apprenticeship so far that you wouldn’t have necessarily been exposed to in an ordinary role?
The apprenticeship has meant that I have had to diversify the work that I do and take on additional work to fulfil the module requirements. My knowledge has increased significantly with the guided structure of the apprenticeship and the support of my manager, giving me appropriate work to fulfil those requirements.
How are you supported by Damar and your coach?
My coach, Jenna, at Damar is excellent and has made the apprenticeship journey really easy. She is always on hand to answer any queries and I look forward to our regular meetings.
How has Damar’s approach to training contributed to the impact of the apprenticeship on you and your organisation?
The training has made me more commercially and personally aware. It keeps you up to date in areas other than law but these are areas that all pervade through our business and the legal aspects of my current role.
What did it mean to you to win Damar’s Apprentice of the Month?
I was very shocked but very proud that the work I had put in had been recognised by Damar.
