Brian Wang – Business Admin Apprentice

This case study features Brian Wang, Business Admin Apprentice at the University of Law.

What is your job title?

Student Records Officer

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship gave me the best opportunity to learn while on the job. It increased my real-life experience through learning from talented colleagues and allowed me to become qualified at the same time.

What sort of activities did you do in your role whilst you were on the apprenticeship?

  • Working as a member of the University of Law’s Student Office to provide administrative services necessary to underpin the student lifecycle, from initial university registration to completion.
  • Providing high quality administration and customer service support to customer, staff and visitors to the campus across all courses and operations.

What have you enjoyed most about your apprenticeship?

Learning from experienced colleagues of mine, not just in my immediate team but from various other teams as well. Also working and engaging with some of the best Lawyers and solicitors in the UK (staff members) and trainee lawyers and solicitors (our students).

How was your training with Damar?

Very helpful, very clear, excellent support, brilliant trainers and coach.

Having tasks on OneFile made it very easy for me to locate which tasks are due and overdue. Damar Openlearning is also a dream to use, and the user interface is easy to navigate.

What do you think your biggest achievement has been as an apprentice?

Completing my apprenticeship with a distinction grade.

What do you think you have contributed to your organisation during your apprenticeship?

I had a different skillset prior to joining the team as my history is within social media and marketing so my skills were used to produce promotional videos, posters/leaflets, and managing the Facebook page which was a big help to the team and has benefited the organisation greatly.

What are your career plans now you’ve finished your apprenticeship?

  • Higher level of apprenticeship.
  • Progression within the team or organisation.
