How has the apprenticeship impacted on you?

The apprenticeship has impacted me positively. I have learnt new skills that help guide me as a leader / manager in my department and I have gained experience in project management and operational management. It has helped me to develop as a leader and manager and understand different ways of working and solving problems that might arise in the workplace. It has helped me to ensure I keep on top of my time-keeping and delegation of jobs and I have gained confidence in leading difficult conversations.

How will the apprenticeship training continue to impact on you in the future?

The apprenticeship training will continue to impact on me as I have now developed valuable life skills, enabling to me be a better leader and manager and I understand the ways in which to implement different behaviours and skills.

How has the apprenticeship impacted on your organisation?

The apprenticeship has impacted on my organisation as it has enabled me to learn new skills and put these into use as a leader in the department.

How has Damar’s approach to training contributed to the impact of the apprenticeship on you and your organisation?

Damar’s approach to training has contributed positively as it has helped me to learn new skills and pass these onto the rest of the team.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?

I took on the new job as the senior dental nurse. I felt the apprenticeship would give me a better understanding of how to be a good leader and manager.

What activities do you do in your day-to-day role?

On a day-to-day basis I line manage eight dental nurses and five bank dental nurses. I ensure that the trust policies and procedures are met and I ensure that all activity is covered in the department to achieve full service provision. I escalate any problems to the correct people, ensuring they are dealt with to a high standard. I deal with sickness, maternity and HR.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I enjoy the most about my job is treating patients and seeing the end result, especially if they have a good outcome that has changed their life. I also enjoy the leadership side and ensuring that everything is completed to a high standard for the dental nurses.

What are your future career plans?

At the moment I am 20-weeks pregnant with my first child, but once I return from maternity leave my future career plans are to enhance my skills as a manager and hopefully work my way up the management chain, here or within another organisation, I have thoroughly enjoyed my promotion as a leader and would like to progress down this route.
